What we do

TEND THE SOIL

Cultivating a fertile ground for spiritual growth, where young adults can come together to express their shared love for God, unapologetically.

Hebrews 10:24-25

“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together…but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the day approaching.”

Taproot: A straight tapering root growing vertically downward in the soil, forming the center from which smaller roots branch off.

  • The idea for “New Ground” draws inspiration from the parable of the sower. We make up the “dirt” or “ground” and “cultivate” it through our ministry.

God is the sower, we are the soil, and the Word is the seeds being sown.

Our community is the “taproot” — that main pillar which sustains the smaller branches that spur from it. In our effort to create a safe, welcoming space, we have planted our roots so new life (or faith, or friendship) can grow out of it.

There was something so special about the intimacy of our small group encounters, but as our ministry grows, its people will eventually branch out. We hope that over time, this ministry will lay a solid foundation for young adults to explore their faith, build new relationships (with God and others), while becoming firmly grounded and free to flourish.

As children, we are guided in our faith— in our education, at home, by our community and youth groups. But as young adults, that foundation slips from beneath us. We become responsible for our faith, yet it is in our late teens, twenties and early thirties that we may encounter our greatest questions and struggles. We may be adults, but we have never lost the need for community and accountability.

Let us be that community— that “root” that sustains and provides the spiritual nourishment needed to tackle uncertainty, insecurity, fear, and loneliness. We turn to Hebrews 10:24-25, which reminds us to encourage one another toward love and good deeds. If we work together, we can build something lasting and meaningful, not only changing each other’s lives, but laying the ground work for future generations.
